ACODE workshops provide a professional development forum for those involved in learning and teaching in the tertiary education sector. Participants engage with the latest information, exchange ideas and make contacts – with a focus on enhancing policies and practices for learning and teaching enabled by technology.

Anyone engaged in the tertiary education sector can attend an ACODE workshop. If you are not one of our ACODE member institutions, please contact us at secretariat@acode.edu.au for details and registration.

ACODE 96 – Assessment at Scale: Examining Best Practice in Large Class Assessment Design and Delivery

As student cohorts continue to grow and diversify, higher education institutions are increasingly challenged to design and deliver assessment that is rigorous, authentic, equitable, and sustainable at scale. This workshop brings together academic and professional staff to examine contemporary best practice in large-class assessment design and delivery, with a focus on maintaining quality and integrity while managing workload and operational complexity.

Participants will explore practical approaches to assessment at scale, including constructive alignment, assessment for learning, feedback strategies that are timely and meaningful, and the effective use of digital tools and platforms. Case studies from across the sector will highlight innovative models for managing high-volume assessment, moderation, academic integrity, accessibility, and inclusive design.

Designed to be highly applied and discussion-based, the workshop will provide opportunities to share challenges, learn from peer experience, and identify transferable strategies that can be adapted to participants’ own institutional contexts. Attendees will leave with actionable insights to support scalable, student-centred assessment practices that enhance learning outcomes without compromising academic standards.
